Overview
This article explains how to physically install a Smart Lock Pro (SLP) and connect it to a door using the Portal Staff App.
Before You Start
Batteries are fully charged
Watch the unboxing video and review the Technical Manual & Specifications
Check the Network Requirements if this door will use Wi-Fi sync
Confirm the door exists in Portal (via PMS import or created manually) — see Portal: How to Manage Doors
The lock is not currently connected to Goki or any other property — a lock cannot be active on two systems at once
Key Concepts
Door: The digital record in Portal that the SLP is linked to
Device Type: The hardware model selected in the Portal Staff App during installation
Handle orientation arrow: A physical setting on the lock body that must match the door's handing — the single most common cause of a failed install
Key: The credential that lets a staff member actually unlock the door — created separately in the Portal Dashboard, not automatically generated by installation. See Teams vs Keys.
Step 1: Prepare and Test Before Mounting
Create the door in Portal first (see Before You Start).
In the Portal Staff App, select the door and connect the SLP to it (see Step 5 below) before physically mounting it on the door frame, so you can test the motor while it's easy to access.
Confirm the disc lights up and the outer handle opens the latch when unlocked.
If the SLP doesn't behave as expected, perform a hard reset and try again.
Tip: Label each SLP with its destination door before connecting and testing it.
Step 2: Prepare the Door
Remove the existing hardware and expose the latch mechanism per the instructions included in the box.
Step 3: Set the Handle Orientation Arrow
If you are using a single tubular latch, make sure the arrow is pointing to "L" if your lock is installed on the right-hand side of the door and "R" if it is installed on the left-hand side of the door.
If you are using a mortise latch, please ensure that the arrow points to Double Latch, unless you have mortise 7098, in that case, you must select "L" or "R" as described above.
Important: This is a critical step in the setup of the SmartLock Pro. If this is not installed correctly (e.g. arrow pointing to "Single" or just slightly off R, L or double latch), there will be no motor noise, and once installed on the door, the lock cannot be unlocked.
In the example below, the lock is installed on the left-hand side, and the arrow should be pointing to "R".
Step 4: Mount the SLP on the Door
Note: Please keep in mind each metal key is unique to the lock it came within the box.
Step 5: Connect the Door in the Portal Staff App
Open the Portal Staff App and log in with your Portal Dashboard credentials.
Go to the Doors tab and select the door (create it first if needed).
Choose Smart Lock Pro (SLP) as the Device Type.
Stay within wireless range and let the app search for nearby locks.
Select the lock once it appears, and follow the on-screen prompts to complete installation.
Once finished, the lock links to the door automatically, and the app will prompt you to connect it to Wi-Fi — see Connecting & Reconnecting to Wi-Fi if it doesn't prompt automatically.
Step 6: Test the Lock
Installing the SLP does not automatically create a way to unlock it. To test it:
Create a Key for yourself in the Portal Dashboard (Keys tab → Add Key), with this door added.
Sign in to the Portal Staff App with that same account.
Once the Key syncs, the Unlock button appears for the door.
Tap Unlock to confirm the SLP opens correctly.
After Installation
Lock details, firmware, connectivity, and battery status appear on the door's page in the Portal Dashboard.
The Locks and Settings tabs become available for the door.
The door will not generate guest access until Keys are assigned and your account is live.
